Studio
“I get crabby when I don’t paint. I am an artist. I have come to that conclusion.”
– Gini Campbell Annis
Painting is a meditation for me. I lose myself. I love being there.
My studio is where I paint and where I teach. It is a private place. One I am willing to share. So through these photos and videos, I am giving you a glimpse into my studio. I want you to have a peek so you can see behind the scenes.
The studio is a place to express passion, so I play passionate music, which helps me resist my tendency to be too technical. I stop at times and just do a very loose painting rather than a detailed painting. I will paint with big broad strokes and a more impressionistic style because it gives me a different perspective.
My style requires certain times when the painting needs to dry. I will work on another painting until I am able to get back to the other. Also, there are times when I need to take a break from a work so that I can return with fresh eyes. How do I know when a painting is finished? I leave the painting turned towards the wall for a week or so. When I turn it around and nothing bothers me then yes…it is complete.
The studio itself is a work in progress. I am always adding a new painting, a new tool for me or my students or a different way to organize my classes. I hope you have a chance to visit someday.
You are welcome to set a time to see my studio, or sign up for a class, by contacting me via email or phone.
